Harmon "Hike? E. Bailey, 102, formerly of Marion and of Garnett Place in Cedar Rapids, died Friday, February 25, 2005, at Hiawatha Care Center, following a brief illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Del Bear. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, February 28, 2005, at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include three sons, Richard (Beth) Bailey of Denver, Colorado, Kenneth (Marilyn) Bailey of Colfax, Louisiana and Thomas (Diana) Bailey of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, David Bailey and Roland Bailey, both of Ohio; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two wives; his parents; a sister, Mary Campbell; three brothers, Raymond, Nathan and Ralph Bailey; and a grandson, Thomas Bailey, Jr.
Harmon was born July 14, 1902, the son of Alva and Laura (Steer) Bailey in Barnsville, Ohio. In 1925, he married Trenna Shipley in Barnesville, she died in 1986. He then married Selma Peterson in 1989 in Marion. She died in 1998. Harmon was a truck driver for Hawkeye Motor Express for thirty-seven years where he was named "Iowa?s Driver of the Year? in 1952. He retired in 1968 and was a member of Teamsters Local #238 Retirees.
For the last thirty-four years, Harmon was a winter resident of Pine to Palm Resort in Weslaco, Texas. He loved playing cards and shuffleboard. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend. Harmon was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
