The Reverend Harlan James Heiserman of Lillian, Alabama, went to be with his Lord on June 11, 2009, at the age of 54, after a 14-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
A memorial service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Manchester, Iowa on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, Iowa-Murdoch Funeral Home in Manchester are in charge of local arrangements.
Harlan Heiserman was born in Manchester, Iowa, to Erwin and Dorothy (Fischer) Heiserman on January 6, 1955. He grew up on the family farm northeast of Iowa and attended West Delaware Community Schools. He received his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University and ran the family farm before pursuing his Master of Divinity Degree from Fort Wayne Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He served his vicarage at Bethany Lutheran Church in Slidell, Louisiana. He was ordained into the ministry of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod in July of 1983 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Manchester, Iowa.
Reverend Heiserman was the pastor of Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Lillian, and had previously served as pastor of churches in Crestview, Florida; Cullman, Alabama; Columbia Tennessee; and Titusville, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Betsy (Suters) Heiserman of Lillian; son Jason, also of Lillian; son Joel of Winter Park, Florida; brother Ken Heiserman of Marietta, Georgia; sister Kathleen Hoth of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; aunt Mildred Fritz of Manchester, Iowa; and four nieces.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod World Missions.
