Harlan W. Gochenour, 67, of Delhi, Iowa, died Saturday evening, May 24, 2003, at St. Luke?s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, San Diego, California at a later date.

Harlan was born May 7, 1936 in Ankeny, Iowa, the son of William and Vera (Houser) Gochenour. He graduated from East High School in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1954 Harlan was united in marriage to Judith Lee Mann. In 1955 he became a route driver for the Weber/Butternut Bakery based in Des Moines. In 1962, Harlan was promoted to supervisor and relocated to California. Judith passed away on September 3, 1986. In 1987 Harlan married Nancy Lee Anderson-Carroll in San Diego, CA. Harlan was transferred to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1989 to serve as a plant manager for Weber/Butternut Bakery. After thirty-eight years with the company, Harlan retired in 1993 and moved to Delhi, Iowa.

Harlan was a member of the Southern California Grocers Association and the Teamsters Union. He was good at fixing things and enjoyed working with his hands and woodworking. Harlan also enjoyed being outside, he liked to fish, golf and ride around on his lawnmower.

Harlan is survived by his wife, Nancy L. Gochenour of Delhi, Iowa; four sons and their wives, Clark & Nancy Gochenour of Whittier, California; Mark & Pam Gochenour of Fontana, California; Thomas & Miriam of San Diego, California; Scott & Erin Gochenour of San Diego, California; one step-son, Brian Carroll of California; one step-daughter and her husband, Bonnie & Tom DeJong of Grand Rapids, Michigan; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Harlan was preceded in death by his first wife, Judith; his parents, William & Vera Gochenour; and one brother, Orum Wayne Gochenour.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the American Lung Association.
