H. Pierce Alexander, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 10, 2004, at Northbrook Care Center, Cedar Rapids, of heart failure. Family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Survivors include his son, Victor and wife Connie (Morningstar) of Cedar Rapids; and a daughter-in-law, Oralia Alexander, of Torreon, Mexico.

Also surviving are three grandsons, Kevin and wife Lori of Clinton, Oklahoma, Brian and wife Rachel of Davie, Florida, and Jordan of Torreon, Mexico; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Marvin Alexander of Falls Church, Virginia, and three sisters, Joy Vieira, Jeanene Mangler, both of Lompoc, California, and Judy Hilton of Santa Maria, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Curt.

Pierce was born April 2, 1921, the son of Homer and Jewell Alexander in Springtown, Texas. He graduated from Santa Barbara High School in Santa Barbara, California, and from Cal Poly Technical State College in San Luis Obispo, California. Pierce served with the United States Air Corp during World War II. A businessman in Cedar Rapids most of his life, he was a part-time magician during the 1950?s and 1960?s, known as "Alexander the Great?, performing for many children?s parties. Pierce was a member of the Oakland Church of the Nazarene. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
