Gysbert "Guy? Blommers, 82, of 2261 E. Grant View in Coralville, formerly of Marion, died Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, following a sudden illness. Memorial Services: 11 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Howard Chapman. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pella at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; three daughters, Joni (Gary) Werle of Iowa City, Susan (Scott) Rohret and their children Erica and Andrew of Oxford and Judy DeKruyff and her children of Pella; and a sister, Gertrude Dykstra of Pella.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Douglas; and two brothers, Marvin and David.
Guy was born February 25, 1922, the son of Benjamin T. and Tillie (DeWitt) Blommers in Pella. On September 7, 1957, he married Ruth Riddle at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He was a lifelong painter and worked for the Cedar Rapids Community School District. Guy served with the U.S. Army during WWII.
Guy and Ruth lived in Marion for 41 years and then moved to Coralville to be closer to their daughters. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion.
A memorial fund has been established in Guy?s memory.
