Gregory John “Poet” Davidson, 61, of 1321 15th Street S.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 22, 2008, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, from complications of pulmonary fibrosis. Services: 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, October 27, 2008, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, with military honors.
Survivors include his children, Gregory J. (Dorothy) Davidson, Jr. of Marion, Scott (Dyanna) Davidson, Bobby Davidson, Dawn (Nicholas) Miller, Zacharia (Kendra McCormick) Davidson, Gabriel Davidson and Laci Davidson, all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Maricella, Clarissa, Gregory III, Chelsea, Breanna, Emilio, Miguel, Ashley, Alexander, Madeline, Kaylese, Aiden and Macyn; a great grandson, Isaac; siblings, Clarissa (Terry) Maker of Cedar Rapids, Robert (Loretta) Davidson of Wapello, Linda Doubek of Sigourney, Gary (Gloria) Davidson of Cedar Rapids, Jeanne (Kevin) Collins of Mesa, Arizona, Rick Davidson of Bettendorf and Jo (Tim) Holmes of Newburg, Iowa; and Janet Davidson of Cedar Rapids.
Gregory was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Darlene Davidson; brother-in-law, Ron Doubek; and his special friend, Ramona LeClere.
Gregory was born July 15, 1947, in Bettendorf, Iowa, the son of Robert and Ann (Husko) Davidson. He served in the U.S. Navy. Gregory was previously married to Diana Anderson and Janet Bruner. For 30 years he did millright work for Local #2158.
He very much loved his family, poetry, motorcycles, fishing, camping and sports, and especially enjoyed following the Cubs, Bears and Hawkeyes. In the early 70’s, Poet was a member of the Chosen Few Motorcycle Club.
