Grace M. VanFossen, 98, a resident of the Vinton Lutheran Home, formerly of Urbana, died Monday, March 14, 2005, at the Lutheran Home following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 17, 2005, at Urbana Christian Church by Rev. Thomas Felts. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: Urbana Cemetery, Urbana.
Survivors include her children, Leslie VanFossen and wife Mary of Vinton and Anna Slager of Vinton; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lela Hepker of Vinton and Betty Lahue of Urbana.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two daughters, Idela Fern VanFossen and Bessie Louise Phillips; three sisters, Beulah Elgin, Pansy Hawley and Leona Rick; and five brothers, Everett, Don, Sidney, Harold and Howard Boyles.
Grace was born January 19, 1907, in Benton County, the daughter of Isaac Newton and Erma (Wheeler) Boyles. She married Asa H. VanFossen on September 26, 1925. He died in August of 1966. Grace was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, quilting, cooking, canning and working in her flower and vegetable gardens.
