Grace D. Merrifield, 86, of Troy Mills, died Friday, June 4, 2004. Services: 1 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Leo Andersen. Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Tom (Sally) of Marion; four daughters, Sharon (Bob) Bowers of Glendora, California, Nancy (Charles) Brown of Hiawatha, Kathy Fuller (Russ Aswegan) of Atkins and Patricia (Darwin) Harmening of Bertram; twenty grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, James; a daughter-in-law, Linda Merrifield; four brothers, Bob Alloway, Larry Alloway, Francis Van Milligan and Alfred Van Milligan; and three sisters, Ruth Hasley, Wuanita Martin and Verona Chesmore.
Grace was born January 6, 1918, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of William and Ada (Reynolds) Van Milligan. She married Lynn Merrifield on October 24, 1936. He died June 30, 1978. They farmed at Troy Mills since 1938.
She enjoyed playing cards, fishing and listening to country and western music, especially Lefty Frizzel. Her love for her feline companions was unsurpassed.
