Grace Eileen "Eileen" Billhorn (Utley)

Grace Eileen Billhorn, 84, of Manchester, died January 23, 2009 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa following a short illness.
Funeral services for Eileen will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at First Lutheran Church in Manchester by Rev. Dr. Jean Rabary. Family will greet friends from
2:00 - 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 26 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.
Eileen was born August 29, 1924 in Manchester, the daughter of Miles and Grace (Hockaday) Utley. She attended school in the Manchester Public Schools, graduating in 1942. Following graduation, Eileen worked for the telephone company and the box factory. On May 14, 1944, Eileen was united in marriage to Victor Billhorn at the Community Congregational Church in Manchester. In 1945, Victor & Eileen moved to a farm in Milo Township where they raised four sons and a daughter. The couple retired from farming in 1970 and moved to Manchester in 1974. Eileen worked for the Delaware County Credit Bureau for several years after moving to Manchester.
Eileen was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Manchester where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a lifetime member of the Society of the Mayflower Descendants. Eileen enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, was a voracious reader and enjoyed fishing and traveling with Victor. She was a long time 4-H leader and served on the Extension Council.
Eileen is survived by five children, Steve (Wilma) Billhorn of Manchester, John (Donna) Billhorn of Prairie du Sac, WI, Susan (Jerry) Lee of Manchester, Lance (MarJean) Billhorn of Manchester and Alan (Diana) Billhorn of Des Moines; twelve grandchildren, Stephanie (Mike) Funke, Cynthia Schmucker, Sheridan (Ally) Billhorn, Jennifer (Scott) Evert, Shelly Arrieta, William (Donna) Billhorn, Joni (Karl) Blau, Leslie and C.J. Billhorn, Kelly (Andrea) McDowell, Sara Billhorn and Kathy Billhorn (Nick Letts); seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dr. George Howard (Kathryn) Utley of Clarence and David (Gail) Utley of Muscatine; one sister-in-law, Inez Utley of Marion; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Victor in 2005, her parents, Miles and Grace Utley, and one brother, Harry Utley.
