Gordy D. Whitmore, 55, of Center Point, died Wednesday, June 15, 2005, in his home, following a sudden illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. The family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2005, at the funeral home. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point, with military honors.
Survivors include two brothers, Gary (Beverly) Whitmore of Alamogordo, New Mexico, and Dick Whitmore of Overland Park, Kansas; two nephews, Randy (Sharie) Whitmore of Peculiar, Missouri, and Brian (Susie) Whitmore of Alamogordo, New Mexico; a niece, Sheryl Whitmore of Olathe, Kansas; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gordy was born February 8, 1950, the son of Clair and Maxine Healy Whitmore, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A 1968 graduate of Center Point High School, he served with the United States Army, where he did two tours of duty in Vietnam and received a purple heart and bronze star. Gordy was a science fiction enthusiast and enjoyed collecting comic books.
