Gordon F. Wilson, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, February 25, 2013, at his home. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Rev. Dave Miller. Family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Wilson of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Anita (Pat) Kaplan of Marion and Linda (Brian) Meyer of South Amana; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Travis Kaplan; and two sisters, Maureen Hunt of Cedar Rapids and Margaret (Bob) Bronner of Cresco.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Donald, Gerald and Norbert.
Gordie was born on October 7, 1933, in Cresco, Iowa, son of Gilbert and Eleanor (Leferink) Wilson. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Cresco high school in 1953. Gordie served in the United States Air Force from 1953-1957 where he did air plane maintenance. When he returned to Cresco in 1957 he worked at Kratz Motor where he was the head of the parts department. On September 21, 1958 he married Ruby Reuter at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. In 1962 they moved to Cedar Rapids where he worked for Farmstead Foods for 28 ½ years until they closed, then worked at Quaker Oats until he retired after 10 years. Gordie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Gordie loved to go camping, hunting, fishing and playing cards. They went on several camping trips to Alaska, California and Florida. He liked to go to Little Rock State Park by Branson and Pike Peak State Park by McGregor. After he retired he loved to take his boat fishing at Pleasant Creek, Coralville reservoir and Lake MacBride. He also loved woodworking and gardening.
