Gordon Gillette, 93, died at the Hiawatha Care Center on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, of natural causes. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, by Pastor John Seitz. The family will greet friends 4-8 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2009, at the funeral home. Graveside service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2009, at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery in Waterloo.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma of Marion; his children, Charles (Joyce) Gillette of Washburn, and Margaret (Tom) Demorest of Marion; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Elizabeth Ehrle, Cara Freed, and Harriet Olson; and one brother, Harold Gillette.
Gordon was born December 28, 1915, to Harry and Marian (Bamford) Gillette in Jamestown, North Dakota. He was a graduate of Jamestown High School with the Class of 1933. Gordon was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corp. He was married to Thelma K. Cunningham at the St. Paul Methodist Church in Waterloo on December 29, 1940. Gordon was part owner of Dixie Cream Donuts in Waterloo, and was a real estate broker and insurance salesman.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Gordon’s memory.
