Gordon J. Edwards, 97, of Marion, died peacefully on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2012 at St. Paul United Methodist Church Chapel, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Harlan Gillespie. The family will greet friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Private Family Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his children, Sheryl (Arnie) Prosser of Richardson, TX, Charles (Lora Lea) Edwards and Sally (Carl Hendrickson) Rowley, both of Cedar Rapids; his step-children, Colleen (William) Picket of Orlando, FL, Vicki (Joe) Finkstein of Marion, and Steve (Marlene) LeMont of Fairfax; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including: Lisa, John, Eric, Brian, Christopher, and Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 46 years, Maxine; his ex-wife, Camille; and his parents.

Gorde was born March 23, 1914 in Waterville, KS, the son of Charles W. and Gertrude (Gordon) Edwards. He graduated from high school in Sabetha, KS, in 1934. Gorde married Camille Smith on August 21, 1934. Together they had three children and later divorced. Camille died in 1973. Gorde married Maxine LeMont on September 23, 1965 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. He co-owned Burgess & Edwards Printing, which later became Pepco Litho that he ran with his son for many years, retiring in 1980. Gordon enjoyed wintering in Arizona for many years with his wife and their friends. He began his printing career as a teenager at the Sabetha Herald Newspaper and will be remembered as an incredibly talented printer. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and golfing at Indian Creek Country Club in Marion, where Maxine often referred to him as “The Little Duffer”.
