Glenn H. Freeman, Jr., of Walker, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at home, following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Center Point by Rev. Del Bear. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Walker Cemetery.
Survivors include his children, Wendy Freeman of Gillett, Wisconsin, Brett (Rhonda) Freeman of Walker and Bartt Freeman of Walker; his grandchildren, Misty Carson (Al Henderson) of Coggon, Dave Benesch of Cedar Rapids, Shawna (Chad) Meyer of Cedar Rapids, Lindsey Freeman of Walker. Zachery Freeman of Mt. Morris, Illinois, and Andrew Freeman of Shellsburg; and three great-grandchildren, Shane Carson, Kyler Henderson, and Haley Meyer.
Also surviving are three sisters, Marie Hasselbusch, Margaret Stange and Arlene (Jim) Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene; a son-in-law, Ron Benesch; four brothers, Claire, Laverne, Jarvis, and William Freeman; and two sisters, Mardelle Gartner and Beryl Freeman.
Glenn was born August 4, 1930, the son of Glenn H. Freeman Sr. and Leona Montgomery in Shellsburg. He graduated from Walker High School in 1948 and served with the U.S. Navy where he was awarded a good conduct medal. On April 13, 1953, he married Irene Turkal in Iowa City. She died October 19, 2005. Glenn worked at Rockwell for twenty years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Walker American Legion for over fifty years.
Glenn enjoyed being outside hunting, fishing and gardening. His favorite thing in life was spending time with his family.
