Glen H. Pogue, 89, of Manchester, died Friday, February 15, 2008 at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood after living with cancer for several years

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dundee by Rev. Roger McKinstry. Family will greet friends from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour before services Wednesday at the church. Burial with military honors will be in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.

Glen was born December 12, 1918 in Masonville, the son of James E. and Millie (Denison) Pogue. He graduated from Lamont High School in 1936. Glen milked cows for four years before joining the United States Army in February of 1941. Glen served in Co. B 133rd Infantry, 34th Division during World War II in Tunisia, Naples and Rome. While hospitalized in Naples, Italy, Glen took Lutheran instruction. On February 3, 1945 Glen and Vivian A. Theel were united in marriage at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dundee. The couple settled in Dundee where Glen worked at Theel Hardware and drove a school bus. Glen became Dundee Postmaster in 1957 and later a rural mail carrier before retiring after 27 years with the Post Office.

Glen was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dundee and the Manchester American Legion Post #45 and enjoyed attending activities at the Golden Age Activity Center.

Glen is survived by a son, Bruce (Beth) Pogue of Bettendorf; one grandson, Eric (Elizabeth) Pogue of Davenport; four great-grandchildren, Robert, Alex, Rebecca and Aaron William Pogue; a brother, Donald (Anabel) Pogue of Iowa City; a sister-in-law, Delores (Henry "Hank") Brunsman of Dundee; and his nieces and nephews.

Glen is preceded in death by his parents, James & Millie Pogue; his wife, Vivian Pogue in 2006; a grandson, Capt. Aaron Pogue; a brother, Clyde E. Pogue; and a sister, Mary Holmblad.

Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Golden Age Activity Center.
