Gladys Palmer, 82, Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Emery Place, Robins, Iowa, surrounded by her loving family. The family will gather from 5 - 7 p.m. Friday, December 22, 2017, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 520 Wilson Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Gladys’s Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 23, 2017, at the funeral home. Interment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Gladys was born October 24, 1935, in Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of Glenn and Pearl (Jewell) Doty. She married Robert W. Palmer on May 1, 1956. To this union, five children were born. Gladys worked as an Administrative Assistant with Roland Wilbert Vault Company from 1976, until her retirement. She was very close to her family and she especially enjoyed her time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Gladys loved to travel and knit. Her family and friends were given over 100 Christmas stockings that she made over the years. Gladys will truly be missed.
Survivors include her children, Janie (John) Oren of Gulfport, Mississippi, Debbie (Rob) Distante of Eastvale, California, Sheryl Glew of Marion, Iowa, Jim (Deb) Palmer of Robins, Iowa, Cindy Palmer of Marion, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Staci, David, Stephanie, Angela, John, Shane, Chase, Matthew; great-grandsons, Brandon, Robby, Sam; great-granddaughters, Myleigh, Camryn; one great-grandchild expected in the spring; two brothers; four sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, Robert; parents, Glenn and Pearl; two brothers; two brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; and great-grandson, Nicholas Joseph Palmer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Courageous, Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
