Gladys Lillie, 91, a resident of Living Center West, Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, January 9, 2003, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Herbert Isenberg. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include a brother, George Lillie and wife Ruth of Hiawatha; a sister, Winifred Dallas of Cedar Rapids; nephews, William Dallas and wife Janet of New York City, New York and Dr. Steven Mowrey and family of Cedar Rapids and Florida; and nieces, Denise and Christine Gibson of Los Altos, California.
She was born January 23, 1911, in Cedar Rapids, to George and Helen Irvine Lillie. Gladys was employed by Iowa National Insurance Company as a secretary for fifteen years. Later she was employed at Hydro Space Systems and as secretary for Vocational Rehabilitation Organization, Honeymead Products, and attorney, James Holmes. She also worked many years in the Trust Department of Merchants National Bank and with her brother doing wedding photography.
Her volunteer work of many years included leather engraving and leather tooling at Jane Boyd Community House, took care of various duties at Mercy Medical Center, Coe College Army Infirmary and the Red Cross. She also was a nurse?s aide, was involved in Pro-Life Organizations and helped at the Witwer Senior Center. She was an active member of Calvin Sinclair Presbyterian Church for many years.
