Gino Mercuriali, 85, of ManorCare Health Services, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, January 9, 2006, in the care center following a long illness. Graveside Service: 1 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2006, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa. Memorial Gathering: 4-7 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2006, with a 7 p.m. memorial service at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his sister, Margaret Stinton of Washington; his stepdaughter, Sue Coleman of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Celso and Anna; his first wife, Marjorie; his second wife, Kathryn; his son, Gary; his brothers, Bruno, Nida, Nino, and Jerry; and his sister, Nora O?Malley.
On September 19, 1920, in Sioux City, Iowa, Gino was born the son of Celso and Anna (Montraro) Mercuriali. On November 22, 1980, he was united in marriage to Kathryn O?Conner in Cedar Rapids. She died on October 23, 2005. Gino served in the armed forces from 1937-1945 during World War II where he served in the National Guard from 1937-1939 and served in the 1st Ranger Battalion under Lt. Colonel William O. Darby from 1943-1945. His hobbies included woodworking and doing research on WWII on his computer.
