Gertrude Arthur Taylor, 91, a resident of Colonial Manor, Middle Amana, formerly of Marion, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014. Memorial Service: 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church, Marion. The family will greet friends following the services at the church. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, MO.

Survivors include her children, David (Kathy) Taylor of Marion, Janet (James) King of Primm Springs, TN, and Norma (Bill) Hanse of Marion; nine grandchildren, Daniel (Jodi) Taylor, Tony (Brandy) Taylor, Joe (Jessica) Taylor, Jon (Erin) Taylor, Jamie Taylor, Amy Hanse, Andrew Hanse, Taylor King, and Will King; eleven great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Rev. Wilbert Gough.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; infant daughter, Patricia; brother, Robert Arthur; and sister, Florence Gough.

Gertrude was born July 29, 1922, in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of Daniel and Maria (Alexy) Arthur. She graduated from Olney High School in Philadelphia, and married Rev. Donald Taylor on March 16, 1946, in Philadelphia. Gertrude was very supportive, and assisted Donald in his ministry in Grandin, ND, Hendrum, MN, Russell, MN, Mediapolis, IA, Earlham, IA, and Union, MO. She was an Elder and a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church USA. Following Donald’s death in 1984, she moved to Marion, where she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. Gertrude enjoyed quilting, gardening, traveling, and was a member of a book club. She was a volunteer for the Marion Public Library, and was the greatest and most loving Grandmother.

Memorials may be directed to The Alzheimer’s Association, The American Heart Association, First Presbyterian Church of Marion, or Especially For You Race Program at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, in Gertrude’s memory.
