Gertrude M. Staton, 81, of Center Point, Iowa, died Thursday, August 26, 2004, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, following a short illness. Services: 3 p.m. Monday, August 30, 2004, at First Christian Church, Center Point, by the Rev. John Caughron. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point.
Survivors include her lifelong best friend and husband of almost 60 years, Harlan; a son, Steve (Anne) Staton of Oregon, Wisconsin; a daughter, Shirlee (Don) Dufoe of Center Point; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Walter, Dennis, Robert, Marvin and Darrell Davis; and two sisters, Dorothy Boone and Phyllis Morris.
Gertrude was born August 19, 1923, the daughter of Edwin and Pearl Grapes Davis, in Wadena, Minnesota. A graduate from Lamont High School, she was united in marriage to Harlan Staton on December 3, 1944, in Manchester, Iowa. For 29 years, Gertrude worked as a Teacher?s Associate for the Center Point School System. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Center Point, where she served as Sunday School Superintendent for several years and was a Sunday School teacher for 35 years. Gertrude also was an active 4-H Leader. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, feeding and watching birds and spending time at the cabin. Gertrude enjoyed and loved all babies. The love of her life were her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
