Gertrude Marie Hamilton, 69, of 1100 22nd Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday May 25, 2005, at St. Lukes Hospital following a long illness and has gone to heaven for her big 70th birthday bash. Services: 11:00 a.m., Saturday May 28, 2005, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. William Harnish. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Saturday. Burial: St. John?s Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include a daughter Betty (Dayle) Moyer of Cedar Rapids; three sons, Rockford (Barbara) Johnson of Litchfield, Kentucky, Richard Hamilton of Iowa City, and John (Marnee) Hamilton of Cedar Rapids; a sister Donna Clayton of Liscomb; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; and two brothers, William Angell and Richard Angell.
Gertrude was born the daughter of Oliver and Marie (Currier) Angell on May 26, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was united in marriage to John A. Hamilton on August 15, 1959 in Waterloo. He died in 1996. A homemaker and a member of Milestones, Gertrude, enjoyed quilting, painting, reading and vacationing in Arkansas. She also loved her flowers and spending time with her dogs, Mr. Wickette and Miss Missy. Gertrude was a gentle sole with a great sense of humor and who had a "never quit? attitude.
A memorial fund has been established in Gertrude?s memory.
