Geraldine E. Wendling, 87, of Dundee, Iowa, died Sunday, July 2, 2006, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester, Iowa, after a brief illness.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2006 at St. John?s Lutheran Church in Dundee. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester and for one hour before services Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Manchester.
Geraldine was born on July 4, 1918, in Dundee, Iowa, the daughter of Julius & Clara (Fuehr) Hilliger. She was baptized at St. Sebald Lutheran Church, Strawberry Point, by her grandfather, Pastor G.H. Fuehr. She confirmed her faith on Oct. 30, 1932, at St. John?s Lutheran Church in Dundee. Geraldine graduated from Dundee Consolidated Schools in 1935 and the University of Iowa College of Nursing in 1950. On December 6, 1953, Geraldine was married to Francis Wendling at St. John?s Lutheran Church in Dundee. The couple farmed in the Dundee area. She practiced her nursing profession at the University of Iowa Hospital and Delaware County Memorial Hospital. She was the administrator for the Delaware County Public Health agency from 1969 until her retirement on January 1, 1984.
Geraldine was a lifetime member of St. John?s Lutheran Church, Dundee, where she was active in the E.L.C.W. and Search. She was also a life-member of the University of Iowa Alumni Association. Geraldine enjoyed gardening, baking, and crocheting.
Geraldine is survived by her son, John F. Wendling of Dundee; her grandchildren, Chris (Candy), Brian (Sarah), Jacob, Christy and Adam; her great-grandchildren, Forrest, Chelsea, Hannah, Keeli and Danti.
Geraldine is preceded in death by her parents, Julius & Clara Hilliger; her husband, Francis Wendling in 1991; and by her sister, Ruth Hilliger.
