Gerald “Jerry” Sill, 69, of Springville, passed away with his family by his side, Friday, July 15, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Services: 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at Springville United Methodist Church, Springville, Iowa, by Rev. John Kiezer. The family will greet friends from 4 – 8 p.m., Monday, July 18, 2011, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, Iowa, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Springville Cemetery, Springville, Iowa. Military honors provided by Springville American Legion Post #331.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnne; his children, Tammie (Gary) Boren, Sherry (LeRoy) Boland, Shelly (Daryl) Pearson, and Jerry Jr. (Elyra) Sill; 4 grandchildren, Haley, Dustin, Megan, and Tara; 2 brothers, Don (Karen) Sill and Jim (Ruth) Mangold; and a sister, Linda (Doug) Keenan.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Vanita Mangold and a brother, Rusty Sill.
Jerry was born January 5, 1942, in Manchester, Iowa. He graduated from Coggon High School and married JoAnne Vernon on May 14, 1966 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He worked at Farmstead for 30 years and at D&R Masonry until his retirement. Jerry served in the United States Army and was a member of the 101st Airborne unit. He was also a member of Springville American Legion Post 331. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses, and playing cards. He loved spending time with his beloved family and many friends.
