Gerald D. Sacora, 79, of Middletown, Iowa and formerly of Center Point, died Monday, June 23, 2003, in Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa, following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Center Point, where friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today (Wednesday). The Rev. Dick Krenz will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military rites.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda (Bruce) McDowell of Oskaloosa, Sandra (Ron) Askelson of Des Moines, and Suzanne Rath of Phoenix, Arizona; a son, Jerry (Dionne) Sacora of Burlington; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gaylord Sacora of Vinton, Robert Sacora of Cedar Rapids, and Keith Sacora of Marion; and two sisters, June Wilcox of Hiawatha and Pat McArtor of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosie; three sisters, Shirley Fear, Billie Elmore and Dixie Sacora; and a brother, Denny.
Born May 20, 1924, in Ainsworth, Iowa, the son of Ira and Mabel Millsap Sacora, he married Rosetta Mae "Rosie? Rowden on January 28, 1946, in Cedar Rapids. She died March 12, 1996. He served with the Marines during World War II. Gerald was a self-employed interior decorator, and was part of Sacora Decorating. He had attended Noelridge Baptist Church, was a member of Toddville American Legion and Burlington American Legion; and enjoyed fishing, gardening, making pickles and spending time with his family.
