Gerald Lee “Jerry” Tann, 67, of Cedar Rapids, died unexpectedly in his home on Sunday, October 9, 2011. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2011, at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Kay Slocum. Family will greet friends: 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. Burial with military honors: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. A reception will be held at the Moose Lodge beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Survivors include his son, Kevin J. Tann of Cedar Rapids; and #1 and only grandson, David Tann.
He was preceded in death by his wife and mother.
Jerry was born May 24, 1944, the son of Dora Tann, in Fayette, Iowa. He graduated from Fayette High School and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On February 16, 1967, Jerry was united in marriage to Rosella “Rosie” Berglund in Cedar Rapids. Jerry owned and operated Tann Sales, Inc. for many years. His passions were friends, family, and sports. Jerry officiated for many years, including football for 42 years and basketball for 28 years. He was intensely loyal to youth football programs, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Washington High School Booster Club. “GO WARRIORS AND HAWKS!”
