Gerald W. Pirc, 91, of Hopkinton, died Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2007 at the First United Church in Hopkinton by Pastor Kenneth J. Hartman, Sr. Family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville and one hour before services Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Hopkinton Cemetery.
Gerald was born August 15, 1915 in Delaware County, the son of Michael and Myrtle (Cole) Pirc. He graduated from Earlville Public School in 1934. After graduation he helped out on the family farm and worked as a mechanic at Joseph Motors in Hopkinton. He enjoyed playing baseball for the Hopkinton town league. Jerry married Ruth Huggins on March 19, 1946. The couple lived in Hopkinton all of their lives. His primary occupation was a mechanic at Kromminga Motors in Monticello until he retired. Even after retirement, he was often called out to fix tractors and lawn mowers. Ruth passed away on November 23, 1988. Jerry entered the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester in November of 2002.
Jerry was a member of the First United Church in Hopkinton. His favorite pastimes included boating, fishing with family and friends, tinkering on engines and playing cards. In the winter you would see him blowing snow and cleaning driveways for his neighbors. Jerry never liked his own cooking and was always said he threw out more than he ate. Ruth was such a wonderful cook; that he missed when she passed away. He greatly appreciated all the delicious food, pie and baked goods that his neighbors gave him. Since Ruth and Jerry weren't blessed with their own children, they loved it when their nieces and nephews would come over and stay. He enjoyed teasing them and attending all of their graduations was very important to them.
Jerry is survived by his brothers, Ralph Pirc of Marquette and Francis (Marilyn) Pirc of Earlville; and a sister, Mary Bacon of New Hampton.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Myrtle Pirc; his wife, Ruth Pirc; sister, Laura Pirc; sister-in-law, Pat Pirc and brother-in-law, Lawrence Bacon.
