Jerry N. Bruner, 64, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 26, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Jonathan Offt. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, September 25, 2011, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Survivors include his wife, Paula; mother, Helen Bruner of Cedar Rapids; son, Shawn (Tammy) Bruner of Atkins; grandchildren, Cody Bruner, Jacob and Alysha Bruner and Macen Bruner-Ginther; sisters, Nancy (Jim) Snetzler and Pat Reindl both of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law, Misty Bruner; honorary brother, Al Wright of Garnavillo;, honorary daughter-in-law, Rose Schleben; nieces and nephews; and his dog Harley.
Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Mark in 2002; father, Harold in 2003; and his honorary brother, Ron Rehder in 2003.
Born December 15, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jerry was the son of Harold and Helen (Mastin) Bruner. He served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Aludra during the Vietnam War. On November 2, 1968, he was united in marriage to Paula Brundidge in Cedar Rapids. Jerry worked for the county in road maintenance.
Jerry was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Legion in Davenport and the VFW Post #788.
Jerry enjoyed NASCAR, camping, wintering in Mission, Texas, his 65 GTO, and was an avid Iowa fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.
