Gerald E. Goedken, 80, of Dyersville, formerly of Delhi, died Saturday, September 23, 2006 at the Oakcrest Nursing Home in Dyersville following a lengthy illness.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at St. John?s Catholic Church in Delhi by Rev. John Kremer. Family will greet friends from 2-8 p.m. Monday at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville with a scripture service at 2:00 p.m. Friends may also call one hour before services Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in St. John?s Cemetery, Delhi, with military rites.
Gerald was born August 10, 1926 in Worthington, the son of Clement and Cecelia (Bergfeld) Goedken. He entered the United States Army and served his country in during the Korean Conflict. On November 20, 1952, Gerald was united in marriage to Theresa H. Lahr in Sand Springs. The couple farmed west of Worthington before moving to the Delhi area in 1971. They retired in 1987 and moved to Delhi.
Gerald was a member of St. John?s Catholic Church in Delhi where he belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the American Legion Post #160 and the Dubuque County Saddle Club. Gerald enjoyed playing cards, pitching horseshoes, golf and the Chicago Cubs. He especially enjoyed his family and grandchildren.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Theresa Goedken of Dyersville; six daughters, Diane (Tom) Tucker of Cedar Rapids, Mae (Pat) English and Mary (Mark) Kronlage, both of Dyersville, Janet (Rick) Buckner and Jeanette (Pat) Murray, both of Hopkinton and Donna (Tom) Krapfl of Delhi; fifteen grandchildren; Brad & Brian Tucker, Robbie, Jenny & Gwen English, Emily Neilsen, Tim & Jackie Kronlage, Kelly Buckner, Jared, Randy & Stacey Murray, and Luke, Kayla & Mandy Krapfl; a great-grandson, James Tucker; and two sisters, Esther (John) Luensmann of Worthington and Marie (Nick) Beck of Cascade.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; Clem & Cecelia Goedken; a sister, Adeline (Carsten) Thomsen; and a brother, William "Bill? Goedken.
