Gerald D. Frey, 54, of Coralville, previously of North Liberty, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, of a sudden illness. Memorial Service: 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. Family will greet friends after 12:00 noon on Sunday at the funeral home.
Gerald was born February 15, 1955, the son of Homer and Carol (Strub) Frey, in Sterling, Illinois. A 1973 graduate from Cedar Rapids Washington High School, he married Charlene Matteson in 1976, and had two children, Kevin and Garret. They later divorced. Gerald married Sheila Milborn in 1999 and later divorced. In 2008, he met Jan Crawford, his significant other.
For 31 years, Gerald worked for Iowa Precision, most recently as Shipping Supervisor. He enjoyed boating, fishing and was a master craftsman.
Survivors include his sons, Kevin Frey of Mt. Vernon and Garret Frey of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Carol (Wendell) Hebert of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Theresa (Ken) Butler of Cedar Rapids; nephews and nieces, Matthew, Dusty, Heather and Angie; and Jan Crawford.
He was preceded in death by his father, Homer; and a brother, Michael.
Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in memory of Gerald.
