Longtime Gretna, Nebraska resident, Georgia Frohner, 102, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 12, 2023. A private family service and burial took place at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, in Maxwell, Nebraska.
Georgia, born April 21, 1921, grew up on a farm in Prague, Nebraska. She couldn’t have imagined that after high school she would be building airplanes to support the war effort. Yes, a true “Rosie the Riveter.” She married Edward, a career military man, in Papillion, Nebraska in 1944. As a military family, they would live in many interesting places in this country and in Germany. Georgia went on to live in states as different from Nebraska as she could imagine, including central California in the late 1950s, Hawaii in the early 1960s, Kentucky, Kansas, and northern California were also home. While Edward was serving his country overseas, Georgia held down the fort with Nebraska as her base. When Edward retired in 1968, they chose to settle in Gretna, Nebraska. Georgia continued to enjoy many of her favorite activities, including golfing, bowling, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
Georgia was the beloved heart of the family. We will miss her.
Georgia is survived by her children, Gregory (Marsha) Frohner, Shirley Peterson, Sharon (Richard) Hawkins, and Gary Frohner; grandchildren, Amy, Alexandra, Sean, Kyle, and Robert; great-grandchild, June; and sister, Lorene Tucker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Anna Brozek; husband, Edward; brother, Adolf Brozek; sister, Marcella Christensen; and son-in-law, David Peterson.
Memorials are suggested to Gretna Fire and Rescue Department, 21825 Capehart Road, Gretna, Nebraska, 68028.
