George A. Taylor, 87, of Central City, died Friday, August 27, 2010, at his home, following a sudden illness. Services: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. The family will greet friends from 4 – 8 p.m., Monday, August 30, 2010, at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Central City.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jean of Central City; his children, Lois Glage of Walford, Rick (Cheryl) Taylor of Central City, and Sandy (Loras) Faber of Monticello; 8 grandchildren, Cindy Akers, Heinzel Glage, Tina Toom, Derek Taylor, Noah Taylor, Drew Faber, Katina White, and Marty Boyer; 16 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

George was born July 12, 1923, to Della (Edgerly) Taylor, in Central City, Iowa. He married Mary Jean Ahlrich on January 27, 1949 in Monticello, Iowa. George was a dedicated Linn County farmer and worked at Wilson/Farmstead Foods until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. George was an avid outdoorsman and especially loved fishing and gardening. He and Mary Jean also loved dancing.
