George John Stephen Karras, 55, of 1338 J. Avenue NE, Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, September 27, 2008, in his home, following a sudden illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2008, at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Cyprian Sas. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a Trisiagion Service will begin at 7 p.m. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his son, Stephan Karras of San Francisco, California; and a brother, Thomas Karras of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
George was born April 27, 1953, the son of Stephen and Anthoula (Miller) Karras, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A 1971 graduate of Kennedy High School, he attended Emory School of Aviation in Greeley, Colorado and Vero Beach Flight School in Vero Beach, Florida. George was a pilot for Simmons Airlines in Michigan, Evergreen International in Medford, Oregon, and most recently a flight instructor in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas.
