George Elliot Robinson Jr., 74, of Prairieburg, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa with full military honors.
George was born on August 27, 1950, in Torrington, Connecticut, the son of George Sr. and Doris (Labaha) Robinson. The family settled in Goshen, Connecticut, where they raised their children. George and his siblings could often be found rock climbing on Cats Rock. He was a 1968 graduate of Wamogo Regional High School in Litchfield, Connecticut, where he excelled and lettered in baseball. George went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Marine Corp. for 21 years, where he became a Marksman and was stationed on the intelligence ship. Later, George became a Master Sergeant and recruiter for the Marine Corps, until his retirement in 1989. He was married to Rita Ann Collen in 1968, the couple later divorced. On February 24, 1996, George was united in marriage to Susan Nadine Hoffman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following his military career, he later worked for the Palo Power Plant for 10 years as well as farming locally. George was an avid hunter and fisherman and also enjoyed gardening. George will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
George is survived and lovingly remembered by his eight children, George (Kristen) Robinson III of Lisbon, Iowa, Lynn Robinson of Monticello, Iowa, Melissa Robinson of Prairieburg, Derrick (Andrea) Petersen of Central City, Devon (Quinton) Bitner of Central City, Jessica (Blake) McGinty of Marion, and Cody Robinson of Central City; 17 grandchildren, Brooke, Hunter (Sienna), Peyton, Luke, Alysha, Ayla, Alanna, Draya, Shianna, Katie, Austin, Dominic, Layla, Sophia, Aceson, Axley, and Adalynn; one great-granddaughter, Kiyrah; and four siblings, Greg (Melissa) Robinson of Stanwood, Iowa, Patty (Mark) Zeiner of Goshen, Connecticut, Mary Sokol of Colorado, and Donald (Tamara) Robinson of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Susan Robinson; and son, Bruce Robinson.
