George Lumir “Red” Machacek, 65, formerly of Ryan, died Thursday, April 28, 2011, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, by Rev. Tim Carter. Family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at the funeral home. Burial: Alice Cemetery, rural Center Point, with military honors by Troy Mills American Legion Floyd Williamson Post #712.
Survivors include his children, Nick (Jessica Long) Machacek of Fairfax, Kristin (Kerry Koranda) Machacek of Coggon, Matt (Sarah Kleinschmidt) Machacek of Ryan, and Justin (Lindsay) Machacek of North Carolina; and 5 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kaden, Toby, Levi, and Kyleigh.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Allen Barnhill.
Red was born May 8, 1945, in Center Point, the son of George Joseph and Albia (Weininger) Machacek. He graduated from Troy Mills High School. Red served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a machinist at KwikWay Manufacturing for 17 years. Red was dearly loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Red’s memory.
