George William Penn, Jr., 95, of Greeley, Iowa, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 9, 2023, at the Bohnenkamp – Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, in Manchester, Iowa where visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Deacon Paul Dolan will officiate. Military honors will follow the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Greeley, Iowa.
George was born on February 29, 1928, in Graettinger, Iowa, the son of George Sr. and Dolene (Dunlevy) Penn. He was a 1947 graduate of Clarion High School and went on to attend Gates Business College in Waterloo, Iowa. George honorably served in the United States Army from 1950 - 1952. He spent most of his life doing what he loved, working on the farm and helping out at McClellan’s Variety Store, until his retirement. George was a member of the Greeley American Legion in Greeley and St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood. He was a collector of many things and enjoyed listening to the radio and watching Iowa Hawkeye football. George was very appreciative of all the support that was shown to him by neighbors and friends throughout his life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
George is survived by his sister, Margaret Neuses of Dubuque, Iowa; sister-in-law, Lillian Penn of Nevada, Missouri and 15 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Dolene Penn; his four brothers, Dr. Robert Penn, Leo Penn, Richard Penn and Thomas Penn.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Jane Christiansen and St. Mark’s Catholic Church for everything they did to help take care of George over the last few years. Such kindness will never be forgotten.
