George L. Pederson, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, March 22, 2009, at home. Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at First Congregational Church in Cedar Rapids by Rev. David Hohmann. There will be a private burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include one brother, Gene Pederson of Hayward, California; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alfreda “Freddie” Pederson; and eleven brothers and sisters.
George was born on February 13, 1920, in Charbonneau, North Dakota, the son of Jeppe and Millie (Glick) Pederson. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII where he earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Medal. On June 9, 1951, he married “Freddie” K. Boss in Marion. George was a tool and die maker for Century Engineering in Cedar Rapids for 37 years. He was a member of First Congregational Church, the Cedar Rapids Audubon Society, and an honorary life member of the Indian Creek Nature Center.
After retirement, George did a lot of volunteering with Indian Creek Nature Center and Iowa Rails to Trials. He would always lend a helping hand whenever there was a need. He enjoyed the company of the neighborhood children, and biking trips with friends. George’s kind and gentle sense of humor will be greatly missed.
