George Miller, Jr., 79, of 1370 Wilson Avenue S.W., died Sunday afternoon, November 3, 2002, in St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, from Parkinson?s Disease and pneumonia. Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2002, at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, Cedar Rapids, by Fr. Basil Hickman. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, where there will be a Triasigon Service at 6:00 p.m., Masonic Rites at 7:00 p.m. and military rites at 7:30 p.m.

Survivors include a son, Gregory Nelson of Wichita, Kansas; a sister, Anthoula Karras and husband Steve of Cedar Rapids; nephews, George Miller of Lombard, Illinois, James Miller of South Bend, Indiana, Thomas Karras of Cedar Rapids and George Karras of Dallas, Texas; and a great-nephew, Stephen Karras of Oakland, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Phyllis.

Born September 2, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, to George and Georgia Pappas Miller, he married Phyllis Lou Gardner in 1970. She died October 4, 1996. He graduated from McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids, and attended the University of Iowa. During World War II, he was a pilot for the Navy. For many years, he owned and operated Miller?s Automotive Service. George was a member of American Legion Post No. 727, El Kahir Shrine, and Masonic Mizpah Lodge No. 639. He was in the Hall of Fame of Hawkeye Downs, the Softball Hall of Fame and was an avid bowler.

Memorials may be made in George?s memory to St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, Cedar Rapids.
