George M. Knipp, 75, of Manchester, Iowa, died Saturday morning, May 31, 2003 at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester following a brief illness.

Services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at the St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Manchester, with the Rev. Ralph Simington officiating. Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, June 2, at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester and one hour before the funeral mass on Tuesday at the church. The Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 4:00 pm and a Scripture service will be held at 7:00 pm. Burial with full military rites will be in the St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery in Manchester.

George was born July 10, 1927 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Ralph & Dorothy (Fabian) Knipp. He attended school in Waterloo and Manchester, graduating from Manchester. George served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On September 3, 1951 George was united in marriage to Lois Marlene Kackley. Marlene passed away on June 12, 1972. On October 6, 1972 George married Mary (Monaghan) Reidy in Manchester. George owned and operated the George M. Knipp Real Estate Office, in Manchester for many years. He retired in 1991. Prior to his real estate career, George sold insurance for the Catholic Knights and operated the family farm.

George was a member of the St. Mary?s Catholic Church, was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, and a member of the American Legion, all of Manchester.

George enjoyed fishing, horse and dog racing and traveling.

George is survived by his wife, Mary Knipp of Manchester; six daughters, Karen (John) Gilbert of Cedar Falls, Kathy Donelson of Cedar Rapids, Kris Meyer of Cedar Rapids, Karol (Brian) Boies of Manchester, Kim (Al) Cole of Manchester and Karla (and fiancé Rob Beadle) Knipp of Marion; step-children, Donnie (Kris) Reidy of Independence, Connie (Roger) Kremer of Ottumwa, Jane Ann (Craig) Jennings of Marshalltown, Susan (Rick) Schoeberl of Waterloo; 30 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his first wife, Marlene; his parents Ralph & Dorothy Knipp; one brother John Knipp; a half brother, Raymond Knipp; a half sister, Ruth Knipp Remetch and a step-son, Marty Reidy.
