George D. Hodge, 82, of 2473 Highway 13, Marion, a lifelong resident of the Cedar Rapids-Marion area, died Monday, March 17, 2003, in St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2003 at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Surviving are his wife, Hilda; his sons, Donald and wife Karry of Marion and George and wife Ruby of Arvada, Colorado; a brother, David Hodge and wife Margaret of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Gerry Hodge, Rachel Larson, Scott Hodge and Andy Hodge; six great-grandchildren; and three step-sons, Ray Turner and wife Peggy of Miami, Florida, Phillip Turner and wife Barb of Cedar Rapids and Jack Turner of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hollis; his parents; and a brother, Phillips Hodge.
George was born July 14, 1920, the son of George and Rose (Herda) Hodge, Jr. in Dubuque. He first married Hollis E. Rosendahl on June 14, 1942. Together, they bore two sons. Hollis died May 22, 1978. George then married Hilda M. Turner on August 23, 1980 in Cedar Rapids. He served with the U.S. Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during WWII. George was a manager for Cold Stream Poultry Farms for many years. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion and Central Church of Christ in Cedar Rapids.
George enjoyed life and time spent with friends and family. His grandchildren meant everything to him.
