Rev. George H. Golay, 84, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, October 25, 2013, at the Heritage Nursing Home. Services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, October 28, 2013, at the Cedar Rapids First Church of The Nazarene, conducted by Rev. Timothy W. Carter. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Sunday at the Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Rev. Golay is survived by his wife of 60 years, Miriam Golay of Cedar Rapids; four children, Paul (Marianne) Golay of Appleton, WI, Steven Golay of Cedar Rapids, Evangeline “Angie” (Mark) Kruszynski of Bloomington, IN, Timothy (Tammy) Golay of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and one sister, Alice Garvin of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Edith Golay; seven brothers and sisters; a daughter, Joy Mareno; a grandson, Matthew Golay; and a great granddaughter.
Rev. Golay was born on April 20, 1929, in Guilford, Missouri. He obtained a Bachelors in Divinity and Masters in Biblical Literature from Seattle Pacific College, Seattle, Washington. Rev. Golay served as pastor in the Free Methodist denomination and as an evangelist for the Church of the Nazarene. He also worked for Underground Evangelism and in the prison ministry.
