George R. Ellsworth, 85, of Coggon, died Monday, January 30, 2006, at St. Luke?s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, after a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2006, at United Parish Church in Coggon, by the Rev. Stan Wierson. Private Inurnment: Coggon Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, where a Masonic service begins at 6:30 p.m.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-seven years, Dorothy; a son, Lonnie (Betty) Ellsworth of Cedar Rapids; a daughter Shirley Ellsworth of Aurora, Illinois; a sister, Margaret Gue of Port Charlotte, Florida; two granddaughters, Lora and Dona; six great-grandsons; and a great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary Ellsworth; and his twin brother, William Ellsworth.

George was born August 27, 1920, the son of Walter and Olga (Bowser) Ellsworth in rural Paris, Iowa. He graduated from Coggon High School in 1938. On July 23, 1938, he married Dorothy Emerson. George worked as a field representative for Associated Milk Producers, Inc. for many years. He was a member of United Parish Church in Coggon, a fifty year member of Mecca Lodge #523 AF & AM of Coggon and a former member of the Coggon Lion?s Club.

George enjoyed fishing, dancing and stock car races. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in George?s memory.
