George Milton Depoy, 81, of Marion, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial at a later date: Arlington National Cemetery, Washington D.C. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; son, Larry (Kathy) Depoy of Wisconsin; daughter, Paige (Robert) Bargeron of Virginia; grandchildren, Jessica (Matt) Markos, Amanda (Rob) Williams, and Zachary and Terran Bargeron; sisters, Kathryn (Bill) Moon, and Martha (Badia) Rahman; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Ursuleen Kennedy; sister-in-law, Janann Bachtell; and brother-in-law, Wayne (Berneice) Squires.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Anna Lou Westerhold.

George was born August 4, 1928, in Colchester, Illinois, to Lee and Mary (Faulconer) Depoy. He was married to Charlotte Squires on October 8, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. George was a United States Army Veteran, serving his country for 28 years and retiring as a Sergeant Major. He then worked for Linn County for 15 years. George was a member of the Knights of Columbus #909, and the Marion American Legion Post #298.
