George Wesley Bare, 88, a resident of Willow Gardens Care Center, died there, Thursday, April 16, 2009 following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Del Bear. The family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial: Spencer’s Grove Cemetery in Walker.
He is survived by his wife Roberta of Marion; three children, Carl (Teresa) Bare of Galt, California, Rebecca (Lorence) Thomsen of Princeton, Minnesota, and Barbara (Raymond R.) Taber of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Jason, Carla, and Michael Bare, Trevor Perrin, Stephanie (Peter) Martin, Phillip (Brenna) Perrin, Anastasia ( John) Davis, and Raymond C. (Megan Jo) Taber; three great-grandchildren, Brittni, Taylor, and Axel; and sister, Dr. Luella Klein of Atlanta Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
George was born October 20, 1920, in Walker, Iowa to Elmer and Leah (Stunkard) Bare. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. George was married to Roberta M. Eckhart on February 24, 1951, in Marion. He was a long time automotive mechanic and service manager. George was a member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV, and Midwest Antique Gas Engine and Tractor Association.
