Gene R. Schmidt

Gene R. Schmidt, 60, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Celebration of Life: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Gene is survived by his son, Gary (Danielle) Schmidt of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Jamie (Chris) Rubner and Aunna (Logan) Woods, all of Walker; two grandsons, Ethan and Eli Rubner; four granddaughters, Zoey Schmidt, Hannah Rubner, Alivia Schmidt and Natalie Woods; two brothers, Edward (Nanette) Schmidt of Springville and Gerald (Pat) Schmidt of Brighton, Colorado; four sisters, Marilyn (Larry) Nielsen of Walker, Carol (Doug) Remington of Marion, Marie (Terry) Schrock of Walker, and Marlene (Todd) Conway of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Edna Schmidt and a sister in infancy, Ruth Ann Schmidt.
Gene was born August 16, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Russell and Edna (Folkmann) Schmidt. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Center Point and graduated from Alburnett High School in 1973. For over 40 years he worked at Quaker Oats. Gene loved Oliver tractors and spending time with his grandkids.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in Gene’s memory.
