Gene F. Munier, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion. Funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello, Iowa.
Gene was born on March 2, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Theodore and Daisy (Morehouse) Munier. He served in the United States Air Force from 1957 until being honorably discharged in 1961. On May 22, 1960, Gene was united in marriage to Marilyn K. Hoover in Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico. He was a farmer in Linn County his entire life, served on the board of directors of the Springville Elevator, an Director of the Linn County Farm Bureau and Alternate Director of the Linn County ASCS. In 1974, he was named outstanding young farmer by the Cedar Rapids Jaycees. Gene was a member of the Presbyterian faith and the Marion American Legion. Gene was a kind and gentle soul. There was no such thing as a stranger to him. Gene was loved by anyone who knew him and was always willing to offer a helping hand. He was known for his homemade wine, his love of visiting with others and spending time riding horses. Gene will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gene is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife 62 years, Marilyn Munier of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Julie Gerber of Marion, Iowa; son, John (Tonya Clark) Munier of Springville, Iowa; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Dale (Nina) Munier of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Gerald (Laura) Munier of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Daisy; his best friend, Mike Macey.
