Gaylord A. Sacora, 88, a resident of Rockridge Care Center in Shellsburg, died there on Friday, April 17, 2009. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Oak Grove Christian Church, rural Shellsburg by Rev. Larry Rogers. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Center Point. Burial: Urbana Memorial Cemetery with military honors.
Survivors include a daughter, Luanna (Clarence) Hawkins of Vinton; two sons, Terry (Janet) Sacora of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Randy (Rhonda) Sacora of Summerville, South Carolina; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Marian Stark.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jerrold Brehm; two brothers; and five sisters.
Gaylord was born August 19, 1920, in Ainsworth, Iowa, the son of Ira and Mable (Millsap) Sacora. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII with the 82nd Airborne. Gaylord worked as an interior decorator at his family’s business, Sacora Decorating System, Mackins Paint, and finally retiring in 1983, from the Fairbanks Alaska School System.
A memorial fund has been established in Gaylord’s memory.
