Gayelle B Hall Manuel Bowdish, 82, of Marion, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Bickford Assisted Living and Memory Care in Marion. Friends and family may gather from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, followed by a memorial service at 3:30 p.m. A private family burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Anamosa at a later date.
Gayelle loved hearts after being born on Valentine’s Day in 1934, in Monticello, Iowa and led to a life of putting others before herself. She was the daughter of Dillon and Arleta Berve Hall and was raised in Anamosa, Iowa. Gayelle graduated from Anamosa High School. She married Jack Manuel in 1952, and together they raised five children on the Manuel family farm near Center Junction, Iowa. They later divorced. Gayelle married David D. Bowdish on February 3, 1985, and they made their home in Marion, Iowa. Gayelle worked 18 years for Westphal Super Valu in Anamosa and retired after 17 years with Murdoch Funeral Homes. Following retirement, Gayelle enjoyed helping others as a volunteer with her Church and with Hospice.
She is survived by her husband, Dave Bowdish of Marion, Iowa; her children, daughter, Pam (Gaylen) Kray of Monticello, Iowa, sons, Jeff Manuel of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Brad (Patty) Manuel of Olin, Iowa; son-in-law, Kevin (Melinda) Posekany of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; stepson, Michael (Stacy) Bowdish of Phoenix, Arizona; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Judee (Gary) Johnson of Escondido, California and Ruth Ross of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one brother, Wayne Hall of Anamosa, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dillon and Arleta Hall; two of her daughters, Lynda Manuel and Diane Manuel Posekany; and sister-in-law, Donna Hall.
Gayelle loved music and was a member of “Sweet Adelines”, where she enjoyed joining her daughter, Diane, in song and dance; but her loving sisters never missed a chance to sing with her, either. She and Dave enjoyed traveling and tending to their backyard plants and flowers (aka the desert). Gayelle was the family rock and although she faced many hardships, she always smiled and stayed strong for her family and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bickford Assisted Living and Care Initiatives Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Gayelle the past two years.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer Association East Central Iowa Chapter or Care Initiatives Hospice in Cedar Rapids in Gayelle’s memory.
