Gary L. Yahnke, 79, of Marion passed away Sunday, February 14, 2016, at his home. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, Iowa. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Gary is survived by his wife, Doris Yahnke of Marion: his children, Sherri (Gary) Chalstrom of Marion, Kim (Curtis) Yahnke-West of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Brad Yahnke of Marion; grandson, Spencer Chalstrom of Marion; and half-brother, Jim Yahnke of Elkhorn, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Hilbert and Billie Yahnke; his mother and stepfather, Grace and Roy Rodman; brother, Don; and son-in-law, Glenn Wilkes.
Gary was born June 8, 1936, in Dixon, Illinois. He graduated from Anamosa High School. He married Doris Brockens in Monticello, Iowa on September 14, 1957. In 1958 he received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and in 1962 received his law degree from the University of Arizona. Gary was the City Attorney for Prescott Arizona. In 1968, he moved to Redlands, California where he worked for Lockheed Aircraft. He went on to practice law in San Bernardino, California. They moved back to his hometown of Anamosa, Iowa in 1983 where they owned the Rainbow Supper Club until his retirement in 2000.
A memorial fund has been established in Gary’s memory.
