Gary L. Walker, 59, a lifelong resident of Marion, died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at Caritas Medical Center in Louisville, Kentucky, following complications of surgery. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2003, at First Presbyterian Church in Marion, by the Rev. Howard Chapman, with military rites by American Legion Marion Post 298. Private family inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion.
Surviving are his wife of thirty-seven years, Cheryl; his mother, Margaret Walker of Marion; two sons, Kevin Walker and wife Tara of Marion and Doug Walker and wife Renee of Urbana; a brother, Steven Walker and wife Cathy of Marion.
Also surviving are three grandchildren, Klein, Karlee and Keegan Walker; his loving companion, his dog, Bear; and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Gary was born the son of William and Margaret Lesher Walker on July 10, 1943, in Cedar Rapids. On April 2, 1966, at First Presbyterian Church in Marion he was united in marriage to Cheryl Crow. Gary graduated from Marion High School in 1961 and attended Milwaukee School of Engineering. Gary served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. He worked as a firefighter and building inspector for the City of Marion for many years. Gary was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion, American Legion Marion Post 298 El Kahir Shrine of Cedar Rapids, Trojan Lodge #548 A F & A M of Marion and Cedar Rapids Consistory.
Gary loved Minnesota walleye fishing, racing and spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.
Gary was loved by his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
