Gary L. Vitek, 55, of 1792 50th Street, Marion, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 11, 2007, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 14, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Glenn Hunt. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, December 13, 2007, at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; sons, Joe Vitek and fiancé, Tanya Short of Cedar Rapids and Michael Bateman of Cedar Rapids; one granddaughter, Riley Bateman; and two brothers, Charlie (Beverly) Forrester and Dennis (Marjorie) Forrester both of Cedar Rapids.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents.
On May 5, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Gary was born to Floyd and Margaret (Zimmerman) Vitek. He graduated from Washington High School in 1970. On May 6, 1978, he was united in marriage to Linda Lerch. Gary was employed by Quaker Oats for 37 years.
Gary enjoyed the outdoors, bow hunting, fishing and bird watching. He especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter Riley
